P.E. Intent:

P.E. at St Hubert’s Primary School aims to develop a fun, high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all children to succeed and excel within their individual abilities.

We aim to develop a child’s knowledge, skill and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities including competitive and physically demanding activities. We believe that fitness underpins a healthy body and a healthy mind, therefore we work the 5 components of fitness- cardiovascular endurance, strength, coordination, flexibility, and speed- into our daily routines and lessons.

A varied curriculum is in place to support this. The school provides a range of extra-curricular activities that also support the need for children to learn about all aspect of sport. St Hubert’s provides opportunities for pupils to become physically and mentally confident in a way which supports their overall health and fitness. Our children will have opportunities to compete in sport and other physical activities that build their character and help to embed sporting values such as fairness and respect. We understand that not every child wants to compete, therefore we provide plenty of opportunities for both intra and inter-school events.

P.E. at St Hubert’s is an imperative element of the curriculum, which develops a need for healthy lifestyles, a balanced diet, positive growth mind-set and the resilience to persevere. We are passionate about the need to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding the values of fairness and equality of play to embed life-long values.  Physical Education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting, and applying skills, and promoting positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle along their school journey. Thus we enable children to make informed choices about physical activities throughout their lives.
